Jennifer Barber is the middle child of four, a boxer, and currently attending California State Northridge. She is making strides in completing her education in hopes of working with children with hearing impairments. This very talented young female has been boxing for a little over a year now, however, the competitive drive that she possesses began at a young age while studying the art of karate.
This first year of amateur boxing has been a very explosive one for Jennifer, capturing many titles. Her boxing abilities, including great foot movement (no doubt an advantage from her karate days), set her apart from many women in amateur boxing. On September 1, 2002, participating in her first match, Jennifer earned her first boxing title. Having her first bout against a young lady who had been boxing for quite some time, Jennifer took her back to, as one would call it, "The School of Boxing."
More importantly, this year Jennifer Barber was named "Boxer of the Month" (August 2003) by USA Boxing. Barber plans on making sure everyone knows her talent and gives due respect to her boxing skills. In her career as an amateur boxer, she's had only 3 losses -- which she later on revenged, dominating her opponents. Jennifer "The Razor" Barber's impressive amateur boxing record stands at 14 wins 3 defeats.
Although there will be no amateur boxing women competing in the 2004 Olympic Games, the California-based boxing woman still has high goals set for herself; she is very determined to master the sport. Learning the art of boxing, rather than pouting about females being unable to compete in the Olympic's boxing events, Jennifer "The Razor" Barber is preparing herself for the 2004 USA Women's National Championships to be held in July. In Jennifer's own words, "You can't just practice four to six weeks before a tournament because boxing isn't a seasonal sport, it's a year around sport."
