Antonio De Santiago

In Loving Memory

Antonio De Santiago was born in East Los Angeles, Ca on September 5, 1978. He came from a family of 6, mom, dad, Antonio being the oldest, his sister Lisa, brother Omar and little brother Marcos. They all later moved to Baldwin Park in 1984 where he attended school and enrolled in boxing when he turned 7 at the Baldwin Park Boy and Girls club. He graduated in 1996, by then he was already a professional boxer. After high school Antonio worked with his dad at the family business, then after work, he would go and train. By then Antonio was training at the South El Monte gym where Ben Lira was his trainer and good friend. Antonio was a beautiful person inside and out. He was always thinking of others and handling life issues with a smile. That's one of many great attributes I admire about Antonio, he never let problems get him down and always enjoyed life. Antonio always wanted to explore the world and live life happily, going places with family and friends.

In my entire life I never met a person like Antonio and I know I never will, he taught me a lot and I learned a whole lot from him. Antonio taught me to always think positive and to know how to handle myself in any kind of situations the world may bring.

Before he passed at age 22, his girlfriend got pregnant; he was so happy and looking forward to being a father. The night of Oct 13, 2000, he was shot in the stomach, where the bullet ricocheted inside and took his life. His girlfriend was 3 months pregnant when this happened. Antonio did not know the gender of his unborn child, but when he found out she was expecting, he told everybody he was sure it was a girl. On March 14, 2001, his daughter Danializ Antonia De Santiago was born, having the same exact face and attitude as Antonio. Like if he was born again.

Now after 4 years of Antionio's death, we still think of him every single day and night. He will always be remembered as a great one of a kind person. That person I speak of is my older brother, who I love and miss so much. He will always be in our hearts and thoughts. He is my role model, my guardian angel who I always look up to when the world seems so hard to deal with. I know a person like Antonio will never be forgotten.

In loving memory of a loving son, brother, friend and father:

Antonio "Tiger" De Santiago Almaraz Jr.

See you later brother.
